New UPHC building inaugurated in Wokha

DIMAPUR — The new building of Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) in Wokha was inaugurated by Dr. Akuo Sorhie, Mission Director of National Health Mission (NHM), Department of Health and Family Welfare, on Friday.

In his address, the NHM mission director mentioned that the inauguration of the UPHC new building marked a significant milestone in the commitment to enhancing healthcare services and also represent the joint commitment to provide accessible high quality healthcare to the people, stated a press release from CMO office, Wokha.

“We have taken a strong step forward to improve the overall wellbeing of our community, particularly in Wokha district,” Dr. Sorhie said.

She also said that the health centre would continue to serve as a vital hub for providing essential health services including preventive, promotive and comprehensive primary health care services.

Delivering the welcome address, Dr. Zuchamo Patton, DPO (HSS) Wokha, expressed hope that the UPHC Wokha, situated at Likya colony in the heart of Wokha town, would be a boon to the people seeking medical treatment for minor ailments.

Dr. Zubenthung Kikon, chief medical officer of Wokha, briefed the attendees on the history of the UPHC Wokha, which was established in 2019.

He thanked the medical staff involved in the head count survey of Wokha town, which was conducted in 2019 to achieve the required population target for setting up of the UPHC.

Dr. Kikon also expressed gratitude to Pyobemo Murry, contractor, for donating the land for the new UPHC building, as the health centre was previously functioning from a rented building.

Dr. Merenenla Senlem, NHM state programme officer, said that through the UPHC, the concept of universal health coverage under National Health Policy of 2017 has come along. She expressed hope that the UPHC would reduce the burden on the district hospital.

Dr. Vezokholu Theyo, SPO (NTEP), spoke on the district tuberculosis status and encouraged the UPHC staff to improve the TB screening and testing services.

The programme was chaired by Openthung Kinghen, consultant at UPHC Wokha, and the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Achumi Kikon, MO of UPHC Wokha.

Officials from the directorate, medical superintendent, district programme officers, medical officers and medical staff attended the inaugural programme.

The dedicatory prayer for the new building was said by Chumbenthung Murry, assistant pastor of Wokha Town Baptist Church.
