DIMAPUR — Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) president, Chingwang Konyak, on Wednesday issued a directive calling for consultations with legislators before mergers are made at the local level.
“In the event of merger and support by any other political party(ies) including independent to any NDPP-led municipal or town councils, a consultation with the respective legislators must be done before taking any further decision,” he said in an order.
It came in the backdrop of the NDPP sweeping all three municipal councils – Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung – as well as 13 town councils in the recent election to the urban local bodies (ULBs). The party won 153 out of the 248 seats in 25 ULBs that went to polls in Nagaland.
