NCSU Phek highlights deplorable condition of 2-lane road stretch
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers’ Union (NCSU), Phek district unit, has drawn attention to the deplorable road condition of the two-lane road stretch between Chakhabama and Kikruma.
In a press release, the NCSU Phek unit pointed out that the road stretch, the main route of transport for Phek district and neighboring district Kiphire, has been lying in ruins for the past three to four years.
The NCSU unit disclosed that the construction of the road stretch was initially undertaken by the NHIDCL, which later allotted the package-2 construction work to the KCPL Company.
“The KCPL Company after taking up the work did not execute the construction work properly, leaving it in wrecks for the commuters, and then abandoned the work for many years, later they handed over the work to another company named Ratna,” the NCSU Phek unit said.
It also mentioned that the construction work had been delayed and neglected for many years for the reasons best known to the company.
Condemning the negligence on the part of the company, the unit said that the commuters are under fear psychosis as the route has become insecure to ply.
It insisted that Ratna Company should speed up the pace of construction work at the earliest and clear the roads for smooth movement of vehicles, both heavy and light, before the onset of monsoon.
“Failing to do so, the concerned company will be held responsible for the damages caused to the vehicles and loss of human lives, if any that may arise due to the negligence of the company in manning the road condition properly,” the unit cautioned.
The NCSU Phek also appealed for prompt intervention of the district administration to take swift action for the welfare of the people.
“Quality of workmanship will be thoroughly checked by the union as per the specifications of the work which will not be compromised in any manner.
“If the company and administration as appealed, fail to attend to the above mentioned issues, the union will be obligated to take its own course of action for which the company will be solely held responsible for any untoward situation that may occur,” the NCSU unit added.
