NCD terms ULB elections ‘historic’

DIMAPUR — The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has termed the recently concluded urban local body (ULB) elections with 33% reservation for women as ‘historic,’ thereby creating a new era for women representation in the policy making body.

NCD also appreciated the presiding and polling officials for maintaining democratic mandate by ensuring ‘one man, one vote’ besides conducting the election in a peaceful manner.

The council also congratulated all the elected members of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and East Dimapur Town Council Members (EDTC). It has assured support and cooperation to for the development of the district and maintaining harmonious peaceful coexistence among the citizens.

Meanwhile, NCD appreciated the law enforcing agencies and district administrations for taking outmost precautionary measures to ensure peaceful ULB election.

It has particularly appreciated the commissioner of police, Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, and the deputy commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, under whose strategic planning and supervision the ULB election went off peacefully. It also appreciated all ranks and files of the police and district administration for exhibiting discipline in their assigned duties.

The NCD also acknowledged W Manpai Phom, DMC administrator and returning officer, and polling staff for the meticulous management of the ULB elections. It also appreciated the cooperation of GBs, colony chairmen, DUCCF, GBs’ Union Dimapur, NWHD, DNSU, CSOs and all the communities/ residents of wards for obediently maintaining the democratic discipline.

It further looked forward to join hands with the newly elected DMC and EDTC members to bring about tangible development and progress in Dimapur.
