DIMAPUR — The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has appealed for peaceful and fair conduct of the upcoming Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) election scheduled for June 26.
In a press release on Friday, the NCD stated that it held an ‘extraordinary meeting’ of councillors, during which it was observed that the Dimapur municipal area was most prone to unlawful activities during elections.
Stating that the process of democratic election is pivotal for good governance of the government or urban local bodies (ULB) in the state, the NCD appealed to all the leaders of CSOs, various groups, organisations, and self-vested individuals not to involve in the affairs of forth coming DMC election and create law and order problems or unpleasant disturbances during campaigns and on the polling day.
“Any organisations/groups/parties/individuals coming from outside and creating problems will be doing so with their own risk and will be held fully responsible for any consequential unwanted incidents. The NCD will strictly monitor and vigil all such anti-social elements in and around Dimapur district,” it asserted.
It also highlighted the total lack of development in Dimapur city over the past decade, with even the basic amenities being “completely denied by the state Government due to resource constraints coupled with other local issues and factors.”
It went on to state that citizens should also take the responsibility to look into the local issues factors which hinder development, and appealed to all the electorates to take the ULB election as an opportunity for development and come forward to exercise their franchise for the right candidates.
“The electorates/voters should not leave any space for proxy votes against their names. We must take the upcoming ULB election as the beginning of development and progress of the Dimapur city for survive with minimum essential amenities and peaceful co-existences,” it said.
Further, to facilitate free and fair election and for security of the electorates, NCD appealed to the state government to deploy sufficient security personnel in all polling stations and provide adequate security to the voters. The NCD councillors and Dimapur based CSOs will also fully assist and co-ordinate with the district administration and law enforcing agencies as required, it added.
