Dimapur, Aug. 13 (EMN): As part of Azadika Amrit Mahotsav, NCC cadets of Kohima Group paid homage to freedom fighters and martyrs at Capt. N Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous) war memorial in Nerhema village under Kohima district on August 13.
The aim of the event was to create awareness amongst the youth and NCC cadets on the contribution of freedom fighters in attaining Independence for the country, stated an update from the commanding officer of 24 Nagaland (I) Coy NCC, Kohima, Col. Daniel Lotzem.
“They were the pillars behind our freedom movement, who have revolted against the colonisers, went to war and sacrificed their lives to safeguard the interest of our country and countrymen. India as we know today, it will not be possible without the efforts of our freedom fighters in the past and should pay homage to the supreme sacrifices. And this can be only achieved if we stand united in any circumstance,” said Col Daniel Lotzem.
In his speech, Lotzem also mentioned in brief on the valiant actions of Capt. N Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous), for displaying exceptional courage, leadership and spirit of self-sacrifice in the face of the enemy and was faithful till his last to the call of duty during Kargil War of 1999. He added that it was for his bravery and sacrifice that he was awarded Mahavir Chakra (MVC), the second highest bravery award of the Indian army.
On behalf of Brig. K Venugopal, Group Commander of NCC Group Kohima, he thanked all the participating NCC cadets during the event.
