NBSE celebrates 5 decades of shaping futures
Rio says board has been at the forefront of nurturing students
KOHIMA — Nagaland School Board of Education (NBSE) on Saturday celebrated its 50 years of growth and commitment to education in the state. Marking the anniversary, a celebration was held at the Capital Cultural Hall in Kohima.
On the occasion, Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, acknowledged the NBSE for systematically handling changes in the education system over the past five decades.
Between 1975 and 2024, he informed that 3,96,221 students from within and without the state have passed their matric exams, while 2,14,771 students have cleared Class 12 under NBSE. This year also marks the 100th year of the first Naga graduate in 1924.
Yhome noted that the NBSE has been visionary in its approach towards education and that many successful individuals owe their success to the robust system of education implemented by the NBSE.
He emphasised the need to introduce more vocational subjects to the curriculum and highlighted the efforts that are being made to ensure that students are employable.
RC Jain, the chairman of Assam State School Education Board, lauded the NBSE for its 50 years of journey. ‘The milestone is not merely a measure of time but also a testament to the countless lives touched and dreams nurtured,’ he said.
The last board examination (under Assam Board) was in 1974 with only 1625 candidates, but now the NBSE has grown up with 40,000-plus candidates appearing for examinations, he said.
NBSE Chairperson Asano Sekhose recalled the humble beginnings of the board in October 1974 and acknowledged the tireless efforts and contributions of the visionary pioneers of the board, past employees, and all those associated with the board.
Commissioner & Secretary of School Education and SCERT, Kevileno Angami, said the occasion was a celebration of the countless lives transformed by the NBSE’s perseverance, hard work, and unwavering passion for education.
She reminded that visions and actions shape the educational landscape and future of children. She expressed hope that the milestone serves as a catalyst for innovation, fairness, growth, enhancement, and competencies for nurturing lives as they embark on the next chapter.
Other highlights were the releasing of jubilee souvenirs and mementos and the presentation of awards.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio greeted the NBSE on its golden anniversary. “Congratulations to @nbsenagaland as it celebrates golden jubilee today. NBSE has been at the forefront of educational innovation, setting high standards & nurturing the intellectual & personal growth of students in the state. Best wishes for continued success,” he rewrote on X.
