National Doctors’ Day observed in Mokokchung
MOKOKCHUNG — The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Mokokchung, in collaboration with the CME organising committee Mokokchung, observed National Doctors’ Day on Monday at the conference hall of the chief medical officer (CMO) in Mokokchung.
Dr. Imtimeren Jamir, retired principal director of the Department of Health and Family Welfare, delivered a speech on the significance of the day, underscoring that National Doctors’ Day holds deep meaning for doctors and serves as an annual reminder of the responsibility and privilege of caring for others.
He stated that doctors have chosen a profession demanding long hours, mental and emotional fortitude, and a steadfast commitment to lifelong learning. Despite these challenges, they are driven by an innate desire to heal, comfort, and improve the lives of their patients.
Mentioning that the observance of the day highlighted the vital role doctors play in shaping the health and well-being of individuals and communities, he emphasised that doctors are entrusted with the sacred duty of safeguarding human life, from providing preventive care to managing complex diseases.
He also reminded the doctors of the challenges they face in their daily practice, including navigating ethical dilemmas, coping with the emotional toll of loss, and bearing burdens that are invisible to the public eye.
Stressing the gravity of the medical profession and the trust placed in doctors by patients and society, Jamir urged that doctors should encourage one another, share experiences, and advocate for improvements in working conditions to enable the best possible care.
He challenged the doctors to reaffirm their commitment to the noble profession of medicine and the enduring values that guide it.
“Continue striving for excellence in our field, to push the boundaries of medical knowledge and to mentor the next generation of healers,” he urged the doctors.
The event was attended by 22 doctors practicing in Mokokchung, and eight senior doctors, including two female doctors, were felicitated for their dedication and outstanding health services to the community.
The formal programme was followed by Continuing Medical Education sessions on the topics “Geriatric syndrome,” presented by Dr. Maongtola, MD (Medicine) from the Chest Disease & TB Hospital Mokokchung, and “An approach to a child with fever and rash,” presented by Dr. Imlisenba Lemtur, MD (Paediatrics) from IMDH Mokokchung.
