Nagaland win 4 bronze medals in Taekwondo championship
Kohima: Four youngsters from Nagaland won bronze medals during the 5th Cadet Kyorugi and Poomsae Taekwondo Championship held from March 28 to the 31st at Kota in Rajasthan.
The three medalists from the cadet boys’ team were Manong Konyak (u-41 kg), Thongti (u-45 kg) and Lhongkan (u-57 kg) while the lone cadet girl who fetched her medal was Kinayala Aier (u-49 kg).
The other cadet boys’ team members were Lensethong (u- 37 kg), Manhei konyak (u-49 kg) and Lhuvosayi Vasa u-53 kg).
The 9-member Nagaland team consisted of Anirudh Pandey as the coach and Limatula Jamir as the manager.
According to T Alem Aier, vice-president of Nagaland Taekwondo Association (NTA), in the history of their association, 12-year-old Kinayala Aier from Christian Higher Secondary School Dimapur, is the first girl to represent the state, who went on to win a bronze in the Poomsae events.
NTA, which is affiliated to Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI) and Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA), acknowledged the department of Youth Resources and Sports and its president for the support rendered to the team to take part in the competition.
The association also thanked state Taekwondo coach Visabiu Peseyie and Limatula Jamir for training their students to bring laurels to Nagaland.
