Nagaland tops in Sainik School enrolment in NE

Dimapur, April 3 (EMN): With 655 students, the lone Sainik School at Punglwa village in Peren district topped in enrolment of students among other Sainik Schools in the Northeast region. In India, there are 33 Sainik Schools with a total student enrollment of 17134.
Nagaland was followed by Assam with 637, Manipur with 579, Mizoram with 303, and Arunachal Pradesh with 244 students. This was informed by minister of Defence, Ajay Bhatt, in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on March 28.
The minister also mentioned that last year for the academic session (2021-22), a total of 320 girl students were admitted to Class VI in 33 Sainik Schools and for the academic session 2022-23, a total of 335 vacancies were available for girl candidates in 33 Sainik Schools.
While the total number of women officers serving in defence forces is 10,493, this figure included 4734 military nursing services officers.
According to the minister, all 33 Sainik Schools began admitting girls in the academic year 2021-22, and the admission of girl cadets was first started on a trial basis in Sainik School Chhingchhip during the academic year 2018-19, in accordance with the policy promulgated by the Sainik Schools Society.
Following the success of the pilot project, all Sainik Schools were now open for admission of girls up to 10% of vacancies in Class 6 or 10 girls, whichever was greater, the minister stated.
