DIMAPUR — The state Department of Power has issued a warning to its consumers regarding a new scam circulating via SMS, WhatsApp, and email.
Scammers impersonating the department are sending fraudulent messages threatening consumers that electricity would be disconnected for non-payment of bills, it said in a press release on Friday.
“Such messages without consumer ID, name and billed amount does not originate from department. To ensure safety and security, please be vigilant of such messages and do not respond, do not click on links or attachments contained in such unsolicited messages and do not make calls to the number mentioned in the message,” it cautioned.
