Nagaland Police Duty-cum-Sports Meet concludes
12th NAP (IR) Bn crowned overall champions
DIMAPUR — The 40th Nagaland Police Duty-cum-Sports Meet at the NAPTC ground in Chümoukedima concluded on Wednesday with Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, as the special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Longkumer described the meet as an important event in the police calendar, held biennially, stated an update.
He said that the Nagaland Police has been at the forefront of maintaining law and order, preventing and detecting crime, and providing a sense of security to the citizens of the state.
He spoke of the supreme sacrifice made by the “Naga Force” in the Naxal-ridden areas of Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and other operational zones. He stressed that policing is highly dynamic and must evolve with technological advancements.
Stating that the new criminal laws reflect these changes, he said Nagaland is also undergoing rapid socio-economic and technological transformations. Like elsewhere, the biggest challenges for the Nagaland Police are cybercrime and online financial frauds.
He hoped that the Nagaland Police would rise to the emerging challenges through institutional and capacity building of both infrastructure and human resources within the department. He also congratulated the Police Department for being at the forefront of the “War on Drugs,” which the state government had announced and which members of the 14th NLA had pledged support for on Republic Day.
He said that such events reflect the humane side of policing, showcasing the importance of holistic growth—both as professionals and as individuals.
Earlier, Rupin Sharma, Director General of Police, Nagaland, delivering the welcome address, highlighted that the meet has a long legacy, starting in 1967, and has served as a platform to identify outstanding sportsmen.
According to him, organising such a momentous event requires significant financial resources. For this edition of the meet, he thanked the Chief Minister of Nagaland for granting INR 50 lakh, as well as the corporate sponsors. The Bank of Baroda contributed INR 10 lakh, and the Indian Oil Corporation also contributed INR 10 lakh.
He added that, for the first time in this edition, certified referees trained from among the police personnel were utilised to adjudicate in football and boxing.
The closing ceremony featured the drill competition finals, where the 12th NAP (IR) were declared winners, the 15th Mahila NAP (IR) secured second place, and the 5th NAP took third place. Trophies and medals were awarded to the various teams for game disciplines and duty items.
The 6th NAP Bn won the overall games championship, while the 12th NAP (IR) Bn won the overall duty championship. The best discipline team award was also claimed by the 12th NAP (IR) Bn, who were crowned the overall champions of the meet.
