MOKOKCHUNG — Yimchalu village in Mokokchung district transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity as the two-day 3rd Nagaland Photography Festival 2024 got underway with much fanfare on Friday.

The festival, which will conclude on September 21, is being organised by the Photography Club Dimapur, in collaboration with Yimchalu village, with an aim to promote tourism while showcasing the region’s rich history, culture and natural beauty.

TN Mannen, advisor for Law and Justice and Land Revenue, who was the chief host at the opening ceremony, in his address, emphasised the importance of photography as a tool for capturing and preserving memories and telling stories.

He noted that photography “presents reality, allowing us to believe what was captured in the film is what really happened.” Mannen added that photography now shapes perceptions, influences social change and preserves memories for future generations.

On day-one, the festival began with a photography workshop led by Saroj Kumar Das, an Alpha specialist, who conducted a lighting master class. Md. Noor Alam, a CPRO specialist, also conducted a videography master class.

Over 300 amateur photographers and enthusiasts participated in the sessions.

A futsal tournament, featuring more than 30 teams from across Nagaland was also a major attraction of the festival.

W Benei M Lamthiu, MLA and chairman of the DPDB Noklak, who inaugurated the tournament, announced that the state government would soon launch the Nagaland Football Premier League under the aegis of the Nagaland Football Association.

“This initiative aims to provide a platform for budding footballers in the state to excel and create income opportunities through sports,” he said.

W Nginyeih Konyak, chairperson of the Nagaland State Commission for Women, inaugurated the photo exhibition, which features an extensive collection of photographs covering wildlife, culture, and contemporary artistic expressions contributed by both international and state photographers.

The angling competition, which was also attended by the advisor for Fishery and Aquatic Resources, A Pangjung Jamir, was another key highlight of the festival.

Over 100 anglers from within and outside the district participated, with the overall champion determined by the total weight of fish caught.

Prizes were awarded for the biggest fish, first fish caught and seven consolation prizes based on total fish weight.

The music extravaganza featured captivating performances by Lichu Achumi, Halinator, Akhriezie, and The Gluttons, providing entertainment as visitors explored the bustling stalls, kids’ corner, airsoft and automotive displays.
