NU conducts poster making contest

DIMAPUR — As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ Nagaland University organised a poster making competition in all the four campuses on Wednesday on the theme ‘Life and Environment.’ An update from NU stated that a total of 60 students have participated in the competition. The competition was coordinated by Prof. Amod Sharma (Medziphema campus), Dr. Rashmi (Kohima campus), Ramesh Singh (Dimapur campus) and Ashish Kumar (Lumami campus). It added that the winners would be awarded on May 5.

AR conducts cleanliness drive at ‘Kachari ruins’

In a run-up to the ‘World Environment Day 2023,’ No. 2 Training Battalion, Dimapur, under the aegis of Assam Rifles Training Centre & School (ARTC&S), Shokhuvi, conducted a cleanliness drive and plog run at ‘Kachari ruins,’ Rajbari, on Tuesday. “It has always been the endeavour of Assam Rifles to contribute as much as possible for the wellbeing of the society and this cleanliness drive is a part of this noble gesture,” a defence release stated.

NUTA condemns vandalism of NSF office

The Nagaland University Teacher’s Association (NUTA) has condemned the vandalism carried out at the office of NSF and ANCSU on May 27 and the destruction of the Naga Heritage building, “the symbol of Naga aspiration for self-governance,” by some “miscreants. NUTA felt that the unthoughtful action has not only destroyed the properties but downgraded the image of the highest student’s body or organisation. It stated that some important historical monuments and records were lost in the process. The association advocated that “development should be given the highest priority rather than resorting to violence in future.”

Kohima Excise destroys seized IMFL

The office of the Assistant Commissioner of Excise (Zonal), Kohima, carried out destruction of liquor at KMC garbage dumping area, Merima, on Tuesday. Excise (Zonal) Kohima, in an update, informed that altogether 15137 bottles of assorted IMFL were destroyed. “The seizures were made during the period January 2022 to March 2023. The destruction was done in the presence of the board members consisting of representative from the district administration and Kohima Municipal Council,” it stated.

Minister calls on DDA official

Minister of Housing and Mechanical, P Basangmonba Chang, met the vice chairman of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in New Delhi on May 29 and discussed on matters relating to road connectivity of staff quarters in Dwarka and the land allotment for Nagaland. A press release issued by the deputy director and PRO (IPR) at Nagaland House, New Delhi, Kuoloe Mere, stated that the meeting was fruitful. The minister was accompanied by the executive engineer and junior engineer of PWD (Housing).

HSTUK announces new office bearers

The High School Traders’ Union Kohima (HSTUK) has announced a new team of office bearers for the tenure 2023-2025. The new team is headed by Kezha Miachieo as president, Aphreo Kratsütsu as vice president, Thejangulie Linyü as general secretary, Kevitatuo Kesiezie as treasurer), Kekhrie Kelio as finance secretary and Khriezo Tsiekha as information and publicity secretary. The action committee members included Zeu Suokhrie as convener, Seyie Dzüvichü and Keneizhalie Mere, Diethonguzo Miachieo and Kevisetuo Suokhrie as advisors.

On-the-spot verification of Phek DC office

Chairman of the Committee on Government Assurances (2023-2024) and MLA, Kuzholuzo Nienu, has fixed a visit for an on-the-spot verification of the status of the DC's office in Phek district on June 12. A decision to this effect was taken during the oral evidence meeting of the committee held under Nienu’s chairmanship on May 19, stated an update from Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat. All members of the committee have been requested to join the visit.

NSCN (Niki) cautions employers

Niki Sumi-led NSCN/GPRN has cautioned all those employing non-locals in workplaces such as shops, firms, companies etc. without proper verification of employee's relevant documents to prove his/her identity and address. A statement issued from the office of the secretary, Home Affairs, has informed all concerned to thoroughly verify the documents issued by the competent authority. It cautioned that non-compliance of the directive would be dealt with as per the Yezabo of the government. The Kilo Affairs further informed the non-local employees and those running business in Naga inhabited areas to possess valid work permits and genuine document.

BJP minority condoles demise

Nagaland state BJP minority morcha has condoled the demise of Sujoy Das, who passed away in a road accident on May 29 in Dimapur. It has described him as a dedicated party worker and amiable person. The party stated that Sujoy Das has been supportive in all the party activities. It further conveyed condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed for peace of the departed soul.

NNC (PB) convenes meeting

Naga National Council (Parent Body) has convened a general meeting on June 2. The meeting has been called to discuss on crucial political issues confronting the Naga people and election of new leadership for the next term. All the NNC executive council members, regional councils, sub-regional councils, senior leaders, Naga women federation and other officials are requested to attend the meeting. All the concerned are requested to contact the central office for other necessary information.
