KPC to conduct cleanup exercise on May 18

DIMAPUR —The Kohima Press Club (KPC) will be undertaking a cleanup exercise of its newly government-allotted plot at the New Secretariat area, adjacent to the Made in Nagaland store, on May 18 at 8 am. All members of the press club have been requested to participate in the event. It has been emphasised that the project will be a collective effort, and therefore, the attendance of participants will be recorded.

Sao Chang College constructs water reservoir

DIMAPUR —As part of the extension service, the IQAC at Sao Chang College, Tuensang, constructed a water reservoir at the District Tuberculosis Centre in Tuensang. According to an update, the inauguration of the water reservoir took place on Thursday at the office of the District Tuberculosis Centre in Tuensang, attended by Dr. Imlinaro, the district tuberculosis officer for Tuensang.

Department of Environment notifies

DIMAPUR —The Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has notified that, in partial modification of the department’s previous notification issued on March 19, 2024, the state government has fixed the schedule rates of royalty and other payables on the areca catechu (betel nut), which is not of local origin and passing through the state of Nagaland, with immediate effect. The order was issued with the concurrence of the Finance department, budget and monitoring cell. The rates are as follows: areca catechu (edible)-supari: INR 10 per kg, areca catechu (non-edible)-supari (lali): INR 5 per kg.

DC Mokokchung calls for observing ‘dry day’

DIMAPUR —In light of ‘National Dengue Day’ on Thursday, the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, has informed all households in Mokokchung district to observe a “dry day” every week. During this day, a cleanliness drive is to be conducted to clean the surroundings and drain away any stagnant water in flower pots, water cans, discarded containers, tyres, gutters, and stagnant areas. This initiative aims to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and thereby prevent and control dengue.

TIP  opposes FMR scrapping, border fencing

DIMAPUR —Transborder Indigenous People (TIP), a cross-border Naga community organisation comprised of Nagas living in Myanmar and India with the goal of strengthening the family ties of the Naga people who are straddled by an international boundary, resolved in a meeting in Ukhrul on Thursday to oppose the scrapping of the FMR and the proposed border fencing across Naga areas at the Indo-Myanmar borders. In an update, the organisation stated that it will do everything democratically possible to put pressure on both the Indian and Myanmar governments not to further divide the Naga family. It stated that Seth Shatsang and Leiyolan Vashum were unanimously elected as the organisation’s coordinators.
