B20 delegates visit Kohima war cemetery
Dimapur: B20 delegates from G20 countries visited the World War-II Commonwealth War Cemetery in Kohima on Thursday. During an interaction, Dr. Sanjay Mehrotra, president of Indian Association of Japan, informed that he had a fruitful interaction with the chief minister of Nagaland during the three-day meet. Mehrotra stated that the Japan delegation particularly wanted to focus on fresh drinking water solutions, street lights on the highway, and a monorail from Dimapur to Kohima to help in crowd management, stated a DIPR report. He also stated that the team is interested in industrialisation in food processing, which would generate job opportunities for the unemployed youth of Nagaland. The visit to the Commonwealth War Cemetery in Kohima was initiated to provide a unique experience of Naga history to the delegates.
One sentenced to 20 years imprisonment
The special judge of POCSO Act, Zunheboto, Ajongba Imchen, has sentence one person to undergo 20 years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of INR 10,000 under Section 4 and 6 of POCSO Act read with Section 376 (2) (f) (m) (3) IPC for rape of his minor daughter in connection to session case No.2/22 in corresponding to Zunheboto Women Police Station case no.05/22, GR 19/22. The special judge has recommended to the state government to pay the victim compensation of INR 8 lakh to the victim girl under Section 357A of CrPC and Rule 7 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Rule, 2012 as amended. An update from the office of the Public Prosecutor of Zunheboto informed that the amount should be paid by DLSA Zunheboto and the said compensation amount would be used by the legal guardian of the victim girl for her welfare. The sentence was pronounced on April 4.
Catholics celebrate Moundy Thursday
Catholic churches around the world celebrated Moundy Thursday (the last supper of Jesus). In Nagaland, Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Nagaland, celebrated the last supper of Jesus by washing the feet of the people and offering of holy communion at Cathedral Church in Kohima at 5 pm. An update from Bishops House, stated that Good Friday celebrations would start at 1 pm by marking the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus through the enactment of the Passion of Christ by the youth of the Cathedral church, Kohima. St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Kidima also celebrated the Last Supper of Jesus with Rev. Fr. MP Thomas, rector of Bosco Teacher’s Education College, Dimapur, as the main celebrant at the church premises.
SJU holds 2nd ‘Dynamic Fusion’
History department of St. Joseph University (SJU) conducted its 2nd ‘Dynamic Fusion’ on April 4 at its auditorium on the theme ‘Ameliorating skills and personality.’ An update from the university informed that Dr. Avinuo Chupuo, head of History department, delivered the welcome address and shared on the objective of the event, which was aimed at recognising the talents of the students and to develop their skills and personality. It stated that the students have participated in debate, singing, dancing, and various indoor games. It added that around 260 students attended the event.
Faculty exchange programme held in Phek
Internal Quality Assurance Cells of Phek Government College and Pfutsero Government College jointly organised a one-day faculty exchange programme at Phek Government College on April 4. An update from Phek Government College informed that a total of nine assistant professors from six Arts departments namely English, Education, Economics, History, Political Science, and Tenyidie from Pfutsero College interacted with the students and teaching fraternity. The principal of Phek Government College, Dr. T Tiakaba Jamir has expressed gratitude to the faculty team from Pfutsero Government College and encouraged the teaching fraternity of both the colleges to organise more collaborative activities for students and faculty even in the future.
DYBU celebrates Monyü
Dimapur Yaongyimchen Bühü Union (DYBU) celebrated Monyü festival 2023 in Aoyimti village on April 4. An update from the union stated that the celebration was hosted by Dr. S Imnameren Phom and family. It stated that folk song/ dance was performed by Matsüng Loachy and company, while Monyü folk song was presented by Yaongyimchen Luli Dimapur. Various traditional games and activities were performed to mark the celebration. LT Yanger Angh shared the significance of the festival and also reminded the gathering about the riches and ethics of Monyü.
Power shutdown in Tuli sub-division
Power supply to Tuli sub-division in Mokokchung district would be affected from April 10 to the 15th in view of the vegetation clearance of 132kV and 66kV transmission lines under Mokokchung transmission division. The executive engineer of Mokokchung transmission division, Hekaito Assumi informed that there would be total shutdown of power from 8 am to 5 pm daily in order to facilitate smooth execution of the works. The exercise is being necessitated with an aim to provide stable supply of power and avoid unwarranted disruption. The department has appealed to all public in the affected areas to extend cooperation and bear with the inconvenience during the shutdown period. It added that power supply to Zunheboto district would be affected from April 24 to the 29th and Tuensang district from May 1 to the 6th.
Kohima Police recovers banned cough syrup
Kohima Police personnel manning Khuzama inter-state check gate, while conducting routine checking of vehicles on April 5 at around 1:30 pm, intercepted one vehicle (Tata Yodha) bearing registration No.NL-07-AA0321 and recovered a total of 997 bottles of banned cough syrup. In this connection, one person namely Ashikur Islam (25) was arrested and seized the vehicle along with the banned cough syrup. This was stated by the PRO of Kohima Police.
DMC prohibits roadside vending
The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has prohibited vendors and shopkeepers from setting up markets on roadside infront of the NST Central Workshop. The administrator of DMC, W Manpai Phom, in a notification, cautioned that henceforth anyone found violating the order would be penalised with fine followed by seizure of goods.
NEISSR students undertakes cleanliness drive
The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Chümoukedima, in collaboration with IQAC cell, conducted a mass cleanliness drive on April 5 at NEISSR campus. The volunteers along with other club members of the institute collectively carried out the work in a systematic order, which included disposal of garbage, land leveling, clearing of grass and drainage, rearrangement of parking slot and maintenance of flower garden to beautify the campus, an update stated.
