KOHIMA— The School Education department is in the process of formulating a new Nagaland education service rules and cadre review, said Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, on Thursday.
He assured that the opinions of all concerned would be taken into account in the new service rules and cadre review.
Yhome was speaking at the Nagaland Education Mission Society (NEMS), Samagra Shiksha’s two-day state-level coordination and review meeting with DMAs and EBRCs at the Administrative Training Institute (ATI) Kohima.
While maintaining that the 2017 service rule, which was met with opposition from the All Nagaland School Teachers Association (ANSTA), was comprehensive and done with good intention, he said there is a need to adopt an “all encompassing” approach and to do away with piecemeal solutions in the department.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]Underscoring the need to enhance the calibre of leaders of the education system to bring about change as well as reforms in the Education department, he called for strengthening the administrative set-up right from the grassroots and sub-divisions, with focus on pre-primary and primary education.
Yhome also stressed on the need of professional growth among the mid-career teachers and less political interference in the education sector.
He maintained that the results of the government schools in the Nagaland Board exams have improved over the years, resulting in a rush for admission in government higher secondary schools, as the schools have qualified teachers despite the run-down condition (of school buildings).
Pointing out that the School Education directorate does not know the exact number of graduate and primary teachers, he said the compiling of list of teachers is underway and it is expected to be completed by the end of July.
Yhome also expressed concern over parents not sending girls to schools, especially in primary and middle school. He lamented that many girls end up helping their parents at home while boys are sent to school.
Further, he suggested doing away with the practice of self-nomination for teacher’s award, while calling upon the block and district level coordinators to assess and provide a report by identifying teachers who merit the award.
Commissioner and Secretary, School Education SCERT and Vice Chairman of NEMS, Kevileno Angami, in her speech, expressed delight over the improvement in the school education indicators for the state of Nagaland since 2020-21, 2021-22, in terms of transition rates at the elementary and secondary levels with the decrease in dropouts.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]She also stressed on the need to be adaptive to changes in regard to implementation of NEP 2020 and reiterated that the Samagra Shiksha has been constituted on a mission mode. He called for efforts from the DMAs and EBRCs for successful implementation of programmes and activities.
State Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, Temsunaro Aier, in her keynote address, said the event was organised to upskill the officials for NEP 2020 implementation.
She said commitment and motivated to resolve issues at the shortest time possible are required for those in Samagra Shiksha.
