Nagaland has 171 electric vehicles on road

Dimapur, Feb. 11 (EMN): Nagaland has 171 electric vehicles on road out of the total 966,363 across the country. In order to promote adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles in the country, the government has launched the faster adoption and manufacturing of (hybrid) electric vehicles in India (Fame India) scheme since 2015.
Ministry of Heavy Industries on Friday revealed that the phase-II of Fame India scheme is being implemented presently for a period of five years with effect from April 1, 2019, with a total budgetary support of INR 10,000 crore.
As per the e-vahan portal under the ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Nagaland has 171 electric vehicles on road as on January 31, 2022. In the Northeast states, Assam has the highest numbers with 47,947 electric vehicles, followed by Tripura with 7,593, Sikkim with 2,425, Manipur with 540, Meghalaya with 28, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh with 20 electric vehicles.
In India, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number with 276,217 electric vehicles followed by Delhi with 132,302 vehicles and Karnataka with 82,046 electric vehicles.
The ministry on Friday tweeted, “Scheme for automobile and auto components (INR 25,938 crore) and PLI for ACC (INR 18,100 crore) along with Fame scheme (INR 10,000 crore) to enable India to leapfrog to environmentally cleaner, sustainable, advanced and more efficient electric vehicles (EV) based system.”
The ministry maintained that the government on May 12, 2021, approved a production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for manufacturing of advanced chemistry cell (ACC) in the country in order to bring down prices of battery in the country as the drop in battery price would result in cost reduction of electric vehicles. Also electric vehicles are covered under PLI scheme for automobile and auto components, which was approved on September 15, 2021, with a budgetary outlay of INR 25,938 crore for a period of five years. These steps were taken by the government for adoption of electric vehicles in the country.
It further maintained that the GST on electric vehicles was reduced from 12% to 5%, while GST on chargers/ charging stations for electric vehicles was reduced from 18% to 5%.
The MoRTH also announced that battery-operated vehicles would be given green license plates and be exempted from permit requirements. MoRTH also advised the states to waive road tax on EV, which in turn would help reduce the initial cost of EV.
