Nagaland CM files nomination, expresses confidence of NDPP-BJP alliance coming back to power: Modi, Shah to campaign in state
KOHIMA — Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio filed nomination at Chiephobozou approximately at 11.30 am on Monday, a day before the last date of nomination.
He was accompanied by the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) workers and supporters during the filing of the nomination.
Rio will be contesting from 11 Northern Angami-II Assembly Constituency, the seat he won uncontested in the previous poll.
However, the Indian National Congress had announced Seyievilie Chachu as its candidate for the constituency though he is yet to file his nomination till the time of filing this report.
Speaking to journalists after filing his nomination papers, Rio said he was hopeful of the NDPP-BJP alliance coming back to power and that other political parties may not pose a big challenge.
When asked if he thinks he will be re-elected uncontested this time too, he replied, “I’m not sure about that; I hope good sense will prevail. Let us see being a democracy.”
When asked if he thinks the Congress candidate for 11 Northern Angami-II AC will make an impact this time, he replied: ‘Well, it depends. Can’t take any candidate on the political platform and party just like that in an election. Anyway, I respect any candidate.’
Meanwhile, he informed me that the NDPP manifesto has been prepared and will be out soon. He added that there will be a common minimum programme between the NDPP-BJP alliance.
Rio said the NDPP motto will be “Party towards excellence”.
