Dimapur, April 26 (EMN): The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has appealed “to all the Baptist individuals and churches across Nagaland, and others as well, to pray together on May 1” between 5 and 7 am, saying that the world has been united during this difficult time of Covid-19 pandemic and “requires the believers to stand up in prayer seeking God’s mercy”.

The NBCC stated through a press release that the ongoing pandemic has brought the world to an unprecedented fear and uncertainty.

“We believe that all are praying for God’s mercy in the resurgence of Covid-19 pandemic all across the world and particularly in India. India is looking at a grim forecast so also our region. The situation calls for the believers to stand up to the occasion and pray,” it stated.

“Some can come to mission centres, and those residing near the church can come to the church maintaining strict SOPs for corporate prayers, but the rest can all pray at home as a family, or individually. Even if you are in an inevitable situation or travelling on the road, please take a moment to pray with others,” it added.

Citing the healthcare system being overwhelmed by the rise in Covid cases, the NBCC stated that India needs to break the chain of infection immediately and that everyone is at risk as the virus is mutating new strains.

“Closer to home, Kohima and Dimapur are seeing an alarming number of cases every day. If we go at this rate, we will soon find ourselves in a critical situation. Our facilities are not adequate to deal with emergency situation,” it stated.

The council requested the public to pray, seeking God’s mercy again “as we face the second wave of the pandemic”.  “More than any other time we need God’s powerful intervention into our crisis and to be gracious to us,” it added.

It has also requested the executive secretaries and directors the prayer appeal to all the pastors and churches.
