DIMAPUR — The Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (Mokokchung Town Ao Youth Organisation) and Ao Kaketshir Telongjem Diphupar (AKTD) have strongly condemned the abduction of two handymen of Chümoukedima-based ‘Living Water’ packaged drinking water firm on October 10 and the subsequent extortion demand from the owner by a certain Naga political group.

The MTLT has extended solidarity with the different youth organisations of Diphupar and Chümoukedima, who have already expressed their outrage and condemnation against such anti-social activities.

It stated that the two abducted persons/ handymen were bonafide Ao Naga citizens and added that such abduction with sinister designs cannot be tolerated at any costs.

Stating that every Naga tribe has been coexisting harmoniously thus far despite the ongoing unsolved Indo-Naga political issue, MTLT said the actions of certain anti-social elements undermined and vitiated the peaceful environment of the society at such a time when the Naga youth are slowly exploring different ways and means to earn an honest living by engaging in different activities.

“Such abduction and extortion demands greatly undermine even the noble Naga political issue and poses a grave danger to the peace and livelihood of the innocent citizens,” MTLT said.

MTLT has urged the concern authority, particularly the law enforcing agencies, to be more vigilant and ensure that such incidents are thwarted before it occurs. It further demanded the police to expedite the case and nab the culprits at the earliest.

In another statement, the Ao Kaketshir Telongjem Diphupar (AKTD) stated that the cowardly act has instilled fear and anxiety among the members.

The organisation has urged the law enforcing agencies for a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abduction.

“Such heinous act is a blatant violation of human rights and deterrent to personal liberty, which needs serious condemnation,” AKTD said.

It further affirmed to continue advocating its resentment till the culprits are booked and justice is served.
