DIMAPUR — Nagaland Lok Sabha MP, S Supongmeren Jamir on Tuesday visited the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) office, Dimapur and interacted with the management and staff of the telecom service provider.

During the interaction, General Manager of BSNL Dimapur, Masharib Gul Mufti highlighted the organisation’s ceaseless efforts to provide connectivity access to the areas in the state still not under BSNL network coverage, the NPCC stated in a press release.

The GM informed that they had submitted an ambitious project envisaging the erection of 555 Telecommunication towers spread across the state under the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) of the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, which would provide the long needed last mile connectivity to the consumers in the affected areas.

Mufti also dwelt on the lack of optical fibre cables (OFC) connections in the state, with the exception of three districts, and underscored the importance of fiberisation of the telecom towers for faster, more efficient and reliable data transmissions.

He further informed that the corporation is currently in advanced level discussions with the Nagaland Power department for employing the use of high tension power transmission line infrastructure existing in the state, for expanding its wired data network.

This proposed mode of data transmission through the Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) cable medium is expected to provide high speed fibre connectivity to four more additional districts in the state, he added.

The MP acknowledged the “tireless commitment of the public corporation in providing affordable quality telecom connectivity in the state, especially lauding the team in the state for their efforts in bridging the connectivity divide and walking the extra mile to ensure access to the last man in the line,” the release stated.

Jamir affirmed his full support for the BSNL team’s many endeavours and assured all possible interventions from his end, both at the state as well as the centre, it added.
