Mount Carmel School Wokha steal the show at first inter-school Sepaktakraw tournament

WOKHA — Mount Carmel School Wokha stole the show at the first inter-school Sepaktakraw tournament organised by Wokha District Sepaktakraw Association (WDSA- Sepak) at Local Ground Wokha on Saturday, as it emerged champions in all the categories for both boys and girls.

Mount Carmel School Wokha emerged champions in all the categories — Under 14 Boys, Under 17 Boys and Senior Girls – played at the tournament participated by as many as 16 teams from five schools.

SMBH School bagged the runners-up title in the Under 14 Boys category, while Mount Sinai School won the runners-up titles in both Under 17 Boys and Senior Girls events.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, guest of honour K. Libemo Jami, Youth Resources and Sports Officer and DSO in-charge, Wokha, urged the players to continue giving extra effort, saying that championship titled belong to those who run the extra mile.

Sports has a huge scope, he said, adding that students can also take up professional courses in nutrition athlete diet, physical education, health education, sports sciences, trainers, etc.

He encouraged the players from the district to give their best and maintain consistency in their respective field of sports so that they can represent the district, state and nation one day. Acknowledging the WDSA-Sepak for its zeal in promoting the sport though it is relatively a new organisation, Jami assured that the department will facilitate it in providing training and coaching in Dimapur.

He also gave away the certificates and running trophy to the winners.

T. Zuchanthung Ezung delivered the vote of thanks, while Eliza Kithan, Chaplain of Mt. Sinai School, Wokha, pronounced the benediction during the closing ceremony chaired by WDSA Joint Secretary Chibenthung Kikon.
