DIMAPUR — The ongoing construction of Mon Medical College is said to be on track to meet its November 2026 deadline.

A press release issued by Minister for Health and Family Welfare P Paiwang Konyak informed that he had reviewed the construction works on Saturday.

“The construction of the (state’s) second medical college in Mon has completed 25% of physical work progress, and the college is expected to be completed within its given time frame, November 2026.

“The college will be constructed on 93 acres of land with an estimated cost of INR 325 crore (90:10). The Mon Medical College is a significant project aimed at enhancing healthcare infrastructure and medical education in the region along with NIMSR, Kohima. The medical college will see state-of-the-art infrastructure, including a helipad within the campus,” it stated.

The minister was accompanied by commissioner & secretary for H&FW, principal director, department officials, district and police administration officials, and Konyak Union leaders.

“The contractors updated the status of the construction to the minister and his visiting team. Er. Akang Jamir said the completion time of the college was November 2026 and said as per the time schedules and the current physical progress, the college should be completed within the given time.

“He said the sanctioned cost for the project is INR 325 cr (90:10), and as of today, the state government has INR 242.5 cr of the central share. He said financial progress is 10% while physical progress is 25%,” it informed.

Jamir acknowledged the Konyak civil societies, Mon villagers, and the village councils for being very supportive and “ensuring that nothing hinders the ongoing construction.”

The foundation stone for the Mon Medical College was laid by Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan on February 26, 2021.
