Mokokchung authorities warn Amur Falcon hunters

Mokokchung, Oct 27 (EMN): Mokokchung district’s Deputy Commissioner Limawabang Jamir has on Monday, October 26, warned that appropriate action would be initiated against any individual or group found hunting, trapping, killing or selling Amur Falcons for food, or have the birds in their possession and otherwise.  

Following the report of Eastern mirror, the deputy commissioner stated in an order that the district administration has noted reports that some unscrupulous individuals have been hunting and trapping Amur Falcons in Mokokchung district.

The administration stated that Amur Falcons are protected by the Wild Life Protection Act of 1972, and that trapping, killing and selling these birds is a criminal offence punishable with up to three years of rigorous imprisonment or with INR 25,000 fine or both.  

In this connection, the authorities warned of initiating appropriate action against individuals or  groups found hunting, trapping, killing or selling the Amur Falcons for food, or having the birds in their possession or otherwise.

The order iterated to all the towns and villages of Mokokchung district that hunting wild animals and birds in any form is still banned in the district, and that defaulters would be penalized as per section 9 and section 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.
