MOKOKCHUNG — The Mokokchung Ao Officer Telongjem (MOAT) observed its foundation day-cum-general meeting at Sangtemla Multipurpose Hall, Mokokchung on Wednesday.

Speeches were delivered by a retired principal of Higher Education, Akok Walling, and Rev. Dr. Chingmak, secretary of Eleutheros Christian Society (ECS).

The deputy commissioner (DC) of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji; president of Ao Senden, Marsanen Imsong; and officials of AKM and Watsu Mungdang attended the proggramme.

In his address, DC of Mokokchung highlighted the humility of the Ao people, stating that this quality has made them exceptional leaders, capable of harmonising with various groups.

He also challenged the MOAT members to reflect on whether they are upholding the legacy of their forefathers, who were pioneers of Nagaland.

“Your forefathers have shown and led the people of the state in many areas. The new generation of Ao officers should continue this legacy by being innovators and pioneers in various fields,” he encouraged.

The president of Ao Senden informed about the upcoming Ao officers’ conclave, which would focus on a common platform for Ao Reju and discuss the potential of enhancing the Ao Academy.

He reminded the audience of the Ao people’s historical role in spreading the gospel to many Naga tribes. Imsong also emphasised transparency and accountability in leadership and urged the MOAT members to continue their work with integrity.

“The people are watching your every step; your performance will determine how you serve both the Naga community and the Ao people,” Imsong said.

Akok Walling also spoke on the theme “Vision Mokokchung 2040: Reinvigoration,” while Rev. Dr. Chingmak delivered an insightful talk on “Empowering community.”
