DIMAPUR — The Kiphire District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), in partnership with the 12th Battalion of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh, conducted a mock earthquake exercise on August 22 and 23 at Mount Horeb Baptist School in Pungro town.
The mock exercise was led by the deputy commandant, A Boboi, with the ADC of Pungro, James T Khulu Tikhir, as the responsible officer (RO) and EAC of Pungro, Yitachu Thur, as the incident commander.
A DIPR report stated that the table top exercise on the first day was held to discuss the roles of various stakeholders, scope of the drill, alarm systems and evacuation protocols. The session was focused on improving coordination among participants to ensure effective emergency response.
On the following day, a school safety practice (SSP) programme was conducted, where students participated in a high-rise rope rescue drill, which was led by ASI/ GD Tajuanang.
The programme was aimed at equipping the participants with practical skills and knowledge for handling earthquake scenario.
Participants in the two-day exercise included representatives from all wards, various departments and 250 students from Mount Horeb Baptist School, Saramati School, Christian School and Government Higher Secondary School.
