Nagaland minister of Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along called upon the youth to become leaders who are peace-loving not just in words but in practicality—committed to being patient and working hard towards creating a cohesive society
DIMAPUR — Nagaland minister of Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along, on Sunday called upon the youth of Nagaland to build a cohesive and inclusive society basing on their distinct heritage and cultural thought process.
Imna Along stated this on the second day of the 16th Peace Knit programme organised by the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) and Peace Channel, in collaboration with Xavier Board-Eastern and NE region, North Eastern Social Research Centre, Guwahati, and North East Diocesan Social Service Society, Guwahati, on the theme ‘Action for peace: Our ambition for the global goals.’
Imna Along was of the opinion that peace cannot be achieved superficially through mere write-ups. He added that the authentic voices of the people are completely overshadowed by the sound and voice of violence, anger, aggression and disunity in Nagaland today.
He, therefore, called upon the youth to become leaders who are peace-loving not just in words but in practicality—committed to being patient and working hard towards creating a cohesive society. He further emphasised on the need to stay committed to their goals and work towards them by advocating not just for literacy but for education as they grow.
The vice principal of NEISSR, Fr. Lawrence Khing, delivered the welcome address, while Dr. Fr. Joji Reddy, president of Xavier Board, shared insights on intellectual education and how it influences academic pursuits.
An update from NEISSR stated that Dr. Aotoshi was conferred the peace award for his outstanding work in the fields of education, agriculture, advocacy on entrepreneurship, skills development and his dedication towards the youth and women’s empowerment.
A bamboo dance was performed by the students of NEISSR, while students from different tribes took part to showcase the diverse culture of Nagaland.
