DIMAPUR — G Kaito Aye, Minister for Public Works Department (Roads and Bridges), called upon the citizens of Zunheboto district on Monday to focus on agriculture and not rely solely on rice provided by the government.

Speaking as the chief guest at the ongoing Zunheboto district golden jubilee celebration, Aye urged the gathering not to be greedy for compensation and to give the government the necessary allotments if they want Zunheboto to grow.

He recalled the time when Hokishe Sema was the chief minister of Nagaland, and his government had created seven districts out of the four at that time.

He expressed gratitude to the pioneers of Zunheboto district and their families and also shared that Nagaland was previously under the territories of others, and Nagas suffered greatly at the time, but they are now seeing better days.

Aye also unveiled the jubilee stone.

K Tokugha Sukhalu, Advisor for Food and Civil Supply and Legal Metrology, lauded the pioneers of Zunheboto district, saying that they had a vision for the people and discussed the matter with the government, and thus the Zunheboto district came into being.

He informed that the ground they were holding the function on earlier was a punishment ground for the villagers during the insurgency and that all of the villagers came and dug the ground as punishment.

He said that the 10 Sumi MLAs, including those from Dimapur, want to ensure the development of Zunheboto in infrastructure, education, and health care, but that they need the cooperation of the citizens of the district. He appealed to the citizens to be open-minded and not selfish.

Sukhalu said that they want to make Zunheboto a model district, but they will need the cooperation of all citizens to do so.

On the occasion, the president of Sumi Hoho urged the legislatures to construct a road to the newly built cemetery.
