Microsoft global outage hits Dimapur Airport operations, IndiGo flights delayed
DIMAPUR — Dimapur Airport joined the list of airports across India and the globe that faced technical disruptions on Friday, as a massive outage in Microsoft systems wreaked havoc on airline operations.
Passengers faced significant delays, with some airlines forced to resort to manual check-ins and boarding passes.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, the Dimapur Airport Director confirmed that two IndiGo flights were affected by the global outage.
An IndiGo flight to Kolkata experienced a delay of approximately half an hour, while a Delhi-bound flight was delayed by two hours, the director said.
The Airport Director further informed that a resolution from Microsoft is expected by Saturday morning, taking into account the time difference.
According to a report from the Press Trust of India (PTI), Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) issued an advisory on the Microsoft outage caused by Crowdstrike update, and rated its severity as “critical”.
The widespread outage impacted various airlines’ online services, including booking, check-in, and boarding pass access. IndiGo, SpiceJet and Akasa Air all reported disruptions to their online systems, the report said.
“Our systems are currently impacted by a Microsoft outage, which is also affecting other companies. During this time booking, check-in, access to your boarding pass, and some flights may be impacted,” IndiGo wrote on X.
“We are all hands-on decks and are working to restore stability and normalcy. Our digital team is also coordinating closely with Microsoft Azure to resolve these issues swiftly,” it added.
Meanwhile, Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu assured the passengers that his ministry and Airports Authority of India (AAI) were actively managing the situation using manual methods to ensure minimal disruption.
“We have instructed all airlines and airport authorities to keep passengers informed about their flight status and provide necessary assistance,” Naidu said.
Further, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that his ministry was in touch with Microsoft, adding that NIC network was not affected.
In a post on X, IT Minister Vaishnaw said the reason for the outage had been identified and updates had been released to resolve the issue, the report stated.
