Dimapur, Dec. 17 (EMN): The outcome of the meeting between the three-member committee from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and various civil society organisations from eastern Nagaland, on Saturday is said to be positive.

The MHA team, which arrived in eastern Nagaland on Friday to study the statehood demand of the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO), met with leaders of seven tribal bodies –Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS), Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC), Konyak Union (KU), Phom People’s Council (PPC), United Sangtam Likhum Pumji (USLP), Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC), Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC), Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) and Eastern Naga Women’s Organisation (ENWO) — on Dec.17 in Tuensang.

According to sources, the meeting held in the morning, which lasted about three-and-a-half hours, was “positive”.

Sources told Eastern Mirror that the committee sought to know the grievances of the eastern area during the meeting and they were apprised that the issue starts from grassroots level.

‘The team patiently listened to our grievances for about three hours and said that the end result will depend on the government of India. They are here to understand the ground situation, collect data and the reports,’ the source said while asserting that they received positive response from the team and that they are ready to address the issue.

However, the ENPO’s stand not to participate in any election is clear and we will not accept any economic package, the source affirmed.

The MHA committee had a closed-door meeting with the ENPO leaders, Talk Team and the memorandum signatories on Dec.16.

The MHA three-member team comprising Advisor, North East, MHA, AK Mishra; Intelligence Bureau Joint Director Dr. Mandeep Singh; and MHA North East Division Director AK Dhayani will be flying to International Trade Centre, DAN, Pangsha on Sunday before  leaving for Kohima the same day.
