Meeting with electoral roll observer held in Dimapur
DIMAPUR — In connection with the ongoing special summary revision of the photo electoral roll, with January 1, 2025, as the qualifying date, a meeting was held on Wednesday at the deputy commissioner hall in Dimapur.
It was attended by the observer for Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Peren districts, Y Kikheto Sema, stated a DIPR report.
DC and DEO Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, informed attendees on the occasion about the special campaign dates for the revision process, set for November 8, 9, 22, and 23 (Fridays and Saturdays). Booth-level officers (BLOs) will be stationed at designated polling centres to assist citizens in enrolling and addressing any questions regarding the revision.
In his address, Kikheto emphasised the importance of maintaining an up-to-date and comprehensive voter list, particularly in a diverse district like Dimapur. He encouraged political parties to appoint booth-level agents (BLAs) who could assist BLOs by identifying and enrolling new voters who have reached the age of 18.
He noted that only two weeks remained for enrolment and urged all stakeholders to intensify their efforts to ensure eligible citizens are registered. He also highlighted the importance of focusing on enrolling members of weaker sections of society to promote greater inclusion and representation.
Kikheto lauded Dimapur’s effective coordination, noting that no complaints had been received in the Public Grievances Cell, which indicated smooth operations. He reiterated the importance of the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) initiative and called for a widespread awareness campaign through social media, newspapers, churches, schools, and colleges to encourage citizens to register.
He also emphasised the importance of the special enrolment campaign, urging political parties to actively assist in identifying potential new voters and ensuring clean voter rolls.
He reminded them to address any claims or objections before the deadline and encouraged them to contact him directly at his official contact for any issues related to the electoral roll.
After the meeting, Kikheto conducted site visits to several polling stations in Dimapur, including Supply Colony W/Police, Supply Colony Lapaloma, Hall N/W, Industrial Village Razhuphe-IE/W, Industrial Village Razhuphe-II N/W, Purana Bazar (Riverside) S/W, and Padampukhuri-V.
The meeting was attended by ADC Zakabo V Rotokha, assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) Litsenthung Kikon (EAC, Dimapur II) and Vejoyo Swuro (SDO, Dimapur III), as well as representatives from registered political parties.
