Manipur Governor lauds IBSD for industry-connect programmes
IMPHAL — Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey lauded the Institute of Bio-Resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal, on Wednesday for its industry-connect programmes across several states in the northeastern region, aimed at fostering collaborations between industries and the institute.
Speaking at the consultation programme on ‘Bio-economy from bio-resources: Developing women entrepreneurship’ at the Takyelpat premises of the institute on the outskirts of Imphal, she highlighted that since its inception, IBSD has been involved in research activities and numerous outreach programmes.
These efforts, she said, are aimed at advancing bio-resource development and promoting their sustainable utilisation through biotechnological interventions, with the goal of fostering socio-economic development in the Northeastern region.
The governor also stressed that IBSD is dedicated to making Manipur a self-sustaining and developed state.
She mentioned that IBSD is organising various outreach activities aimed at promoting the bioeconomy from bio-resources among farmers, traditional healers, and women entrepreneurs in the Northeastern region.
Additionally, she urged the institute to conduct training programmes for women in relief camps to enhance their innovation and entrepreneurship skills, thereby supporting their socio-economic sustainability.
The governor, while mentioning the role of scientific research institutes such as IBSD and Central Agricultural University (CAU), emphasised the critical need for close coordination to foster viable research innovations aimed at harnessing the immense potential of bio-resources in the state.
Later, at a function at Raj Bhavan in Imphal, Uikey flagged off an ambulance for the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Senapati District branch.
Speaking to the members of IRCS Senapati and media personnel, the governor stated that providing an ambulance to the Senapati district branch has been a long-standing demand. Recognising its necessity, the ambulance is now being allocated to the branch to facilitate outreach to the people in both Senapati and Kangpokpi districts.
