Nagaland: Man convicted of raping minor sentenced to 21 years imprisonment
NAGALAND — The fast track special court, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), Dimapur sentenced a man to 21 years of rigorous imprisonment for penetrative sexual assault of a minor on Thursday.
The accused, Abul Kasem, 35 years, presently residing in Ahozhe village, Nuiland, was sentenced under section 4 of POCSO Act, 2012 to undergo rigorous imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of INR 10,000. In default of payment of fine, he would undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year.
Kasem was punished under section 8 of POCSO Act, 2012 to three years rigorous imprisonment and to pay a fine of INR 2,000, in default of which he would undergo rigorous imprisonment of one year.
He was convicted under section 354 of Indian Penal Code, and sentenced to one year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of INR I,000, in default of which he would undergo rigorous imprisonment of six months.

Kasem was also convicted under section 377 Indian Penal Code, 1850 and sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and to pay a fine of INR 5,000, in default of which he would undergo rigorous imprisonment of one year.
The accused was further sentenced under section 506 of Indian Penal Code, 1850 and punished to serve rigorous imprisonment of one year and to pay a fine of INR 500, in default of which he would undergo simple imprisonment of two months.
The court order stated that all the sentences would run concurrently except the sentence under section 506 Indian Penal code, 1850, which will run consecutively.
The Dimapur Legal Services Authority was directed to make an inquiry and suggest award of adequate compensation to the victim for rehabilitation as provided under Victim Compensation scheme.
