DIMAPUR — A 46-year-old man, identified as Yetovi Zhimomi, was physically assaulted by a father-son duo who are owners of a brick kiln, along with the labourers working at the kiln at Xukiye Village, Niuland, on March 9.

According to a police officer from Niuland, the incident occurred in the evening following a dispute over the non-payment of rent to the landowner for the use of the brick kiln, as per a prior agreement between the landowner and the lessee.

He informed Eastern Mirror that the landowner attempted to contact the owner of the kiln regarding the payment, but the calls went unanswered. Consequently, the landowner sent people to investigate the matter, and the victim also accompanied them on the way to the brick kiln.

He said that Naveen Kumar, the owner of the kiln, and his father have been remanded in police custody for 72 hours and will be produced before the court on Tuesday, while the labourers involved in assaulting the victim are still absconding.

The victim is currently being treated at the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) for severe head injuries as well as multiple arm fractures.

Kulolau Shena Old Küqhakulu condemns

The Kulolau Shena Old Küqhakulu (#xdc0a;#xdc12;#xdc0e;#xdc0a) condemned the attack on Yetovi Zhimomi by the labourers of M/S World Bricks Factory under the influence of proprietor Naveen Kumar Singh and his father Dharam Singh.

In a condemnation note, the KSOK termed it “unacceptable” and mentioned that the behaviour of Kumar, who failed to pay the land rent and incited his labourers to assault Zhimomi, is deplorable.

Stating that the “union is horrified,” it noted that it calls on law enforcement to prioritise the matter and ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.

“The Kulolau Shena Old Küqhakulu will not tolerate such violence,” read the note, adding that it is essential for the authorities and the broader community to take a firm stand against such blatant disregard for rights and safety.
