LTC sensitises students on sanitation practices
DIMAPUR — As part of the nationwide campaign on ‘Safai Apnao, Bimari Bhagao (SABB), an initiative under Swachh Bharat Mission- Urban 2.0, the office of the Longleng Town Council (LTC) on Wednesday organised an awareness programme on cleanliness and sanitation practices for students at Government Middle School (GMS), Leinak, in Longleng town.
A DIPR report stated that the Management of Information System Assistant (MISA) of LTC, Isaac P, imparted information to the students and teaching faculty on tackling cleanliness and disease-related challenges. He made a detailed explanation on dealing with stagnant water, which could lead to dengue, malaria and other related diseases.
The session also covered essential practices such as adopting cleaner practices like ensuring regular cleaning of drains, maintaining clean toilets and ensuring safe drinking water and commitment to enhancing sanitation and health standards for a safer and cleaner environment for all residents during monsoon season.
He also highlighted on the need for collective effort to promote cleanliness and health. He further requested the school management to adopt garbage venerable point and encouraged to adopt 3 Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) with innovation to convert waste into wealth products.
It mentioned that the ‘Safai Apnao, Bimari Bhagao’ initiative seeks to enhance the preparedness of urban local bodies to handle the challenges posed by heavy rainfall and heightened health risks during the monsoon season by aligning with the concerned departments and inter-sectoral convergence to deal with multifaceted challenges associated with cleanliness and diseases during the season.
Earlier, an introductory note was given by the headmaster of the school, Shumei Anthony. The event was attended by DPA of NEP (the Lighthouse-Nectar), Peter Metchao, teachers and students.
