KOHIMA — Lhisemia Students’ Union (LSU) on Saturday organised the grand finale of its year-long 75th anniversary celebration in the premises of TM Government Higher Secondary School/ Kohima College Kohima (KCK).

The advisor of School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, who was the chief guest, mooted the idea of initiating a trust for scholarship/ awards to honour the pioneers of education to keep their legacy alive and inspire youngsters.

He also called for efforts among the members to fight the menace of drugs and alcoholism and renew efforts to promote the interest of students to be at par with others.

With rapid urbanisation taking place at a fast pace wherein 75% of the area would be urbanised in a span of two decades, he advised the people to prepare, plan and work out strategies.

On the occasion, he also released a souvenir as part of the year-long jubilee celebration.

Chairman of Lhisemia Khel, Ayie Yhome, in his greetings, appreciated the pioneers for their visions and enabling to produce responsible citizens. He also commended the efforts of the LSU in providing night tuition and imparting skills training to needy students. He expressed belief that it would create a positive impact.

Emphasising that true education is important to make a person sustainable in life, Yhome challenged the gathering to examine those aspects and prepare themselves to compete with the rest citing that the world now is competitive.

Greetings were also delivered by Vilalhou Sorhie, president of the Kohima Village Students’ Union (KVSU).

In his presidential address, LSU president, Dziesekhrietuo Khruomo, said the union was launched in 1948 and has contributed for the students welfare since its inception.

Speeches were also delivered by Tseivilie Miachieo, former president of LSU (1975-76), and Keneisevor Dzuvichu.

Besides choral presentation by LSU choir, songs were presented by Menguseu Suokhrie and Visaleü Mepfhuo.
