Nagaland: Lotha Students’ Union felicitates meritorious students

Wokha, July 15 (EMN): Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) felicitated meritorious students of classes 10 and 12 from the Lotha community in the recently declared NBSE results during a programme held at Wokha District Village Council Chairmen’s Association (WDVCCA) hall on July 15.
Speaking at the programme, chairman of Lotha Hoho, Mhondamo Ovung, felt that the present education system has to be more of vocational rather than only learning textbook knowledge. He stated that students need not only obtain various education degrees but also focus beyond textbook knowledge, which are job oriented to address unemployment problems. He, therefore, advised the students to learn and focus on skill development activities to enable themselves employable or become self-employed after completion of studies.
He urged the students to be hard working and dedicated, stating that hard work is the only key to success. He asked them to cultivate perseverance and not be contented with the present achievement but continue working hard to bring laurels to their family and community. He also advised the students to preserve their identity through the use of traditional attire, practice of one’s culture and speaking one’s mother tongue.
Congratulatory notes were delivered by LSU president, Ashanthung Humtsoe, and family members of Late Thungchano Tsanglao.
A prayer of blessings for the toppers was said by Rev. Nyanchumo Lotha, senior associate pastor of Wokha Town Baptist Church.
The programme was chaired by C Longshithung Lotha, LSU education secretary, while invocation prayer was said by Bikhamo Yanthan, pastor of Humtso Baptist Church.
The meritorious academic excellence award of Late Thungchano Tsanglao for girls in securing the top position in HSLC was conferred to Khonzani N Odyuo for securing 9th position in HSLC. Besides, thirteen achievers were awarded with certificates.
Representatives from all affiliated units of the Lotha Students’ Union attended the programme.
