Longpfurr community celebrates ‘Photangnzx’ festival
PUNGRO — ‘Photangnzx,’ the main festival of the Longpfurr sub-tribe of the Yimkhiung community, was celebrated in Pungro town on Sunday. The festival, held annually from October 1 to the 6th, marked the end of millet harvest and is a time of gratitude and festivity for the Longpfurr community.
The programme was chaired by Yase, while the significance of ‘Photangnzx’ festival shared by Khongju, head GB and treasurer.
Distinguished guests who spoke on the occasion included James T Khulu Tikhir, additional deputy commissioner of Pungro; Nuheymong, vice president of Eastern Nagaland Students’ Federation (ENSF); JK Kiutsumong; and Lunso, personal assistant to Kiusumew, advisor for Fire and Emergency Services, Home Guard and Civil Defence, and Relief and Rehabilitation, Government of Nagaland.
Highlights of the celebrations included performances of traditional folk songs and dances, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Longpfurr people.
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Tangsemong.
It may be mentioned here that JK Kiutsumong and Lunso, PA to the advisor, have generously sponsored the Photangnzx celebration for the Longpfurr community in Pungro town. The festival saw an enthusiastic turnout, with approximately 500 attendees participating in the celebrations.
