Longjang students celebrate 75th platinum jubilee

MOKOKCHUNG — The Longjang Kaketshir Telungjem Mokokchung (LKTM) celebrated its 75th platinum jubilee on October 11 at the Town Hall, Mokokchung, on the theme ‘Jangyumedem Shisashir.”

The event was attended by TN Mannen, advisor of Law and Justice, Land Revenue, as the special guest and Dr. I. Lanu Aier, a retired professor from NEHU, as the speaker.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Aier highlighted the importance of education for the younger generation. He reminded the youth that the foundation had been laid by their predecessors, he stated that it is now left to the present generation to carry forward their legacy.

He also emphasised the transformative power of reading, expressing concern over the decline in reading habits, particularly among the youth.

Aier urged the students to cultivate a passion for reading beyond academic texts, including newspapers and other literature.

“Even the habit of reading newspapers is waning,” he noted and encouraged students to remain curious and engaged.

He further motivated the youth to set high ambitions and envision a brighter future, while advising the community to continue fostering a culture of shared learning.

Also speaking on the occasion, Mannen stressed the importance of youth as a critical phase for discovering one’s talents and seizing opportunities.

“It is during your youth that you must shape your future and the future of society,” Mannen said.

Informing that government job opportunities have becoming saturated, he urged the students to explore alternative career paths early in life.

Achanger Aier, SDO of Electrical department, has encouraged students to be prepared for every opportunity whenever arose. He further advised them to work hard, avoid laziness and take upon challenge as motivation for self-improvement.

As part of the celebration, the Bendang T Jamir and Family Trust Award was presented to the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) toppers with a cash prizes of INR 10,000.

Jamir explained that the award was established to inspire students from Longjang towards academic success.

Al so speaking on the occasion, advocate Repentsüng Jamir called upon the youth to uphold the value of hard work in order to excel in life.

The event featured cultural performances including jubilee theme song presented by the members of Longjang Kaketshir Telungjem Mokokchung and a group song by members of Longjalar Telongjem Mokokchung.

Short speeches were delivered by Moarenba Aier, president of LKTM; Kajenkaba Aier, president of Asetkong Kaketshir Telongjem Mokokchung; S Imti Aier, chairman of Longjang Village Council and T Sashi Imchen, president of LSTM.

Rev. Ngangnen, pastor of Alembang Baptist Arogo, offered a prayer for the students, while Atipong Aier, president of LKTM, delivered the welcome address.
