DIMAPUR — The Linguistic Minority Forum of Nagaland (LMFN) has raised issues relating to the welfare of the minority citizens living in Nagaland with the Nagaland Lok Sabaha MP, S Supongmeren Jamir.
LMFN raised the issues during a felicitation programme for Jamir held at Jalmahal conference hall on November 1.
An update from the organisation stated that its chairman, Bishnu Bhattacharjee, highlighted the aims and objectives of LMFN and appealed for safety, security and peace of linguistic minority community living in Nagaland with protection of constitutional rights.
He also highlighted the problems faced by bonafide non-Naga citizens of Dimapur in particular and Nagaland in general and stressed on basic amenities for students, youth and children from non-Naga community.
He pointed out that Dimapur today has changed drastically as people live in fear psychosis and discrimination at various levels. He added that Dimapur, known as Mini India, has lost its original fabric of brotherhood relationship and peaceful coexistence which existed since past decades.
Deepak Chetri, general secretary of District Gorkha Indigenous Forum and advisor of LMFN, submitted a memorandum to Lok Sabha MP, while Sumit Sunar, president of Gorkha Youth Club Dimapur, spoke on the feeling of insecurity among the youth from minority community in some areas.
The report stated that leaders from various communities have highlighted the present status of non-Nagas minority community and also submitted a memorandum to the MP.
Meanwhile, Jamir has emphathised with the non-Nagas community and sought for brotherhood relationship and peaceful coexistence within all communities and tribes in all part of the state. He has assured to take up the issue with the competent authorities and to voice out in a befitting manner at a correct platform.
The MP stated that Nagas believe in brotherhood relationship and peaceful coexistence and assured that non-Nagas can stay in any part of Nagaland in peace and harmony as brothers and sisters.
The MP acknowledged the works undertaken by LMFN for the welfare of the society.
It stated that various speakers representing the Marwari community, Bengali Students’ Union and other communities have congratulated Jamir on his victory to represent the people of Nagaland in the parliament and expressed hope that he would render his service for both Naga and non-Naga citizens.
