KVK organises programme in Tseminyu and Peren
DIMAPUR — As part of 100 days action plan of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), the of KVK Kohima organised a three-day skill development training ‘Preservation technology of seasonal fruits and vegetables’ for Farmer Producer Organisations (FPO) and Self Help Groups (SHG) of Tseminyu district in Sendenyu village from August 8 to the 10th.
During the training, Dr. Shisarenla Aier, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture) at KVK Kohima, deliberated on the scope and importance of fruits and vegetable preservation in the district, causes of food spoilage and how it can be further mitigated by following various principles and methods of preservation.
She informed that the three-day programme was aimed at imparting skill-based training to the FPO and SHG in the field of food processing and value addition to boost up their skills.
An update from KVK Kohima stated that the trainees were highlighted on the importance of FSSAI registration and product labeling for better marketing of their products.
Besides, hands-on practical sessions were conducted on preservation techniques by preparing various products like, king chilli pickle, scallion pickle, banana chips, jackfruit chips, peanut chikki etc. by the subject experts namely Dr. Shisarenla Aier, and Keviyieno Zhasa, technical officer at KVK, Kohima.
A total of 30 representatives from FPO and SHGs of Tseminyu district attended the training.
In another programme, KVK Peren, in collaboration with Collage of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, CAU , Jalukie, organised a Swachhta awareness campaign on August 7 and 9 at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Jalukie, and Barail Valley Higher Secondary School, Jalukie, respectively.
The programme was organised to create awareness on Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) and to mark the celebration of Swachhatta campaign 2024 on the theme “Eliminate STH: Invest in a healthier future for children.”
It stated that Dr. Arun Sagwan, professor at CAU, Jalukie, made a presentation on ‘Introduction to veterinary science and zoonotic parasites,’ while Dr. Sanjay Borthakur, professor at CAU, Jalukie, gave talk on ‘Importance of soil transmitted helminthes.’
It stated that hands-on demonstration on vermicompost technology was presented by Z James Kikon, CTO (Soil Sc.).
It added that as a part of Swachhta drive, dustbin and hand-wash were handed over to both the schools.
Altogether, 201 students participated in the programme.
