DIMAPUR — Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kohima, organised a live telecast of the release of the 18th installment of the Pradhan Mantri-Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on Saturday in Washim, Maharashtra, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the farmers of Chiephobozou village.

During the programme, a brief overview of the scheme was delivered by Puchono Kweho (SMS, Agronomy), who emphasised the significance of the event, highlighting that 9.4 crore farmers across the country would receive direct financial benefits amounting to more than INR 20,000 crore through direct benefit transfer (DBT).

It was mentioned that, alongside a strong value supply chain and support for small, marginal, and landless farmers, the government of India launched the Central Sector Scheme (CSS) for the formation and promotion of 10,000 farmer producer organisations (FPOs), covering every block in the country.

Furthermore, an onion seed distribution programme-cum-rabi campaign was conducted, where technical expert Dr. Martina Shitri (ACTO, Genetics and Plant Breeding) emphasised the importance of forming seed villages and storing quality seeds. Dr. Shisarenla Aier (SMS, Horticulture) explained the scientific cultivation practices for onion and other rabi crops.

A total of 94 farmers attended the programme, along with three town council members, three village council members, and five KVK officials.
