DIMAPUR — The Konyak Union (KU) has declared a ‘public emergency’ across KU jurisdictions with immediate effect in response to the delayed response from the Government of India regarding the creation of the Frontier Naga Territory (FNT).

This comes a day after tribal bodies and frontal organisations in eastern Nagaland declared a ‘public emergency’ in all districts under their jurisdiction.

The KU stated in a press statement that this action is in accordance with the directives of the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) to protest against the delay.

Furthermore, the union announced the strict implementation of the February 23, 2024, Chen Moho Resolution. The resolution mandates abstention from participating in any central or state assembly elections until the offer for the creation of FNT is settled by the Government of India through the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The statement emphasised that the people would not accept any assurances made by the MHA to implement changes after the forthcoming parliamentary elections, adding that there will be a dawn-to-dusk ban all over Mon district on March 8. However, exemptions will be granted for students appearing in board examinations, weddings, medical emergencies, fire and emergency services, and media activities.

It said that the protest will be followed by a more rigorous and intensive protest until the demand for FNT is fulfilled and during this period of public emergency, there will be no election campaigns by any political party within Mon district jurisdiction.

“Any individual/group/party failing to adhere to this call shall do so at their own risk,” it read.
