Konyak Students’ Union slams Nagaland government over reservation policy; seeks review

DIMAPUR — The Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has criticised the government of Nagaland for its continued neglect on issues related to job reservation policy.

“Despite multiple representations, reminders, and appeals through various channels, the government has consistently failed to acknowledge and address the significant disadvantages faced by the Konyak community due to the flawed implementation of this policy,” it said in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the KSU, while the policy ostensibly aims to ensure equal distribution of opportunities across communities, it has, in practice, led to reverse discrimination against the Konyaks.

“The policy’s blanket approach fails to consider the unique demographic realities and challenges faced by different communities within Nagaland, particularly the Konyaks,” it claimed.

This, it said, has widened the employment gap between the Konyak tribe and other communities, and inadvertently exacerbated inequality, leaving the community at a significant disadvantage.

Maintaining that it has numerous attempts to bring these issues to the government’s attention, the student union asserted that the current reservation policy must be reviewed and revised to reflect the true demographic and socio-economic realities of all communities in Nagaland, ensuring that no community is left behind.

It appealed to the chief minister of Nagaland to take immediate and meaningful action to address this pressing issue.

“The Konyak Students’ Union remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of the Konyak community and will continue to do so until a fair and just solution is achieve,” it added.
