Konyak Students’ Union seeks immediate fix for Wangkhao Government College crisis
DIMAPUR — Alleging bureaucratic negligence towards Wangkhao Government College in Mon, the Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) demanded immediate action from the government to ensure resumption of Environmental Science (EVS) classes and urgent reporting of the newly-appointed EVS Assistant Professor.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the student union stated that the current situation—transfer and attachment of the lone EVS Assistant Professor—has left the students’ academic and career prospects hanging by a thread.
“The concerned teacher has been absconding from her duties despite her release order not being issued by the college following the intervention of KSU. The KSU strongly demands that the transferred EVS Assistant Professor resume her duties without delay until a reliever gives the joining report.
“The current suspension of classes due to the professor’s absence is causing severe disruptions to the students’ academic progress, and this cannot continue,” it asserted.
The KSU further urged the government and the department concerned to impress upon the newly-appointed EVS Assistant Professor to report for duty at the earliest.
“However, until such report is made, the transferred professor must fulfill her responsibility to the students and ensure their education is not further compromised. The union stresses that the academic future of the students is paramount, and immediate action must be taken to restore normalcy in the classroom.
“The KSU also reminds the department that as per service rules of the department no government servant is to be transferred during probation period; however, Wangkhao Government College has been repeatedly prejudiced against and many transferring of teachers during their probation period have been made. This has to stop with the government understanding that education has to be imparted and made possible without prejudices,” it maintained.
The KSU stated that its demands were non-negotiable and it will persist in its agitation until the government and the department takes necessary steps to fulfill them.
