Kohima police arrest extortionists, drug traffickers

DIMAPUR – Acting on credible inputs, the Kohima police arrested two individuals on Wednesday who were masquerading as members of the NSCN-K (Nikki) outfit.

The arrests were made at around 2 p.m. from Officers’ Hill and Lerie Colony (CRPF camp area), respectively.

The individuals were arrested for their involvement in extorting money from business establishments located at Lerie Colony.

One toy pistol was recovered from their possession.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Shakulo Thong (22 years old), a resident of Sendenyu Village in Tseminyu district, and Thohrü (28 years old), a resident of Chowainu Village in Senapati district, Manipur.

Drugs worth INR 2.17 crore seized

In an intensified drive against drug trafficking, the Kohima police, in a separate operation, intercepted and seized a total of 2,070 gms (approx.) of suspected heroin worth over INR 2.17 crore in two separate seizures at the inter-state police check gate, Khuzama on Wednesday.

The drugs were packed in soap cases—169 in total—and were being transported in dumpers.

In this connection, five individuals have been arrested and identified as Subash Bista (27 years old), a resident of Senapati, Manipur; Amusana Singh (37 years old), a resident of Bokajan, Assam; Abdul Ahmed (30 years old), a resident of Golaghat, Assam; Losii Payio, a resident of Sanapati, Manipur; and Manikho, a resident of Sanapati, Manipur.

Subsequently, NDPS cases have been registered at Khuzama Police Station for further investigation.

With this latest seizure, Kohima police have registered a record haul of 346 soap cases of heroin weighing 4,137 gms, estimated to be worth INR 4.34 crore, in the month of July 2023.
