Dimapur, Jan. 24 (EMN): Celebrating National Girl Child Day, the district-level centre for women, Mahila Shakti Kendra, Kohima in collaboration with State Resource Centre for Women under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao launched a series of IEC materials and billboards at Nagaland State Social Welfare Board on Monday.
An update informed that Sarah R Ritse, Commissioner and Secretary to the govt. of Nagaland initiated the launch. The IEC materials and billboards were developed by State Resource Centre for Women, which cover various commissions, services and schemes under the department such as Nagaland State Commission for Women, State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Child Protection Services, Schemes under the NSSWB- 181- Women Helpline, BBBP, OSC etc.
Meanwhile, a programme was also organised by district administration and district level centre for women, Mahila Shakti Kendra (BBBP) Mokokchung at Town Hall, Mokokchung on Monday.
Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Limawabang Jamir released the BBBP calendar and delivered a short speech, while Dr. Imlirenla Walling exhorted the gathering.
As part of the celebration programme, students from different schools in Mokokchung town participated in an inter-school extempore speech competition. Social Welfare Officer, Mokokchung, Moamenla Longkumer delivered the welcome speech and a special number was presented by Liju Achumi, Winner of the Stage, Nagaland Season 2.
Winners of the extempore speech competition were Moasungla Jamir of Jubilee Memorial School in firat place, Yimdangjungla of Eden Academy in second place and Aditi Singh of Jubilee Memorial School in third place. SDO (C), Mokokchung, Sentilong Ozukum presented the awards to the winners and also gave the vote of thanks.
In Mokokchung district, Yaongyimsen villagers comprising girl children and their mothers observed and celebrated National Girl Child Day on Monday, sponsored by NABARD and facilitated by NSRLM Changtongya block.
The programme was chaired by Talinungla Area Coordinator (SISD), an update stated. The significance of the programme was highlighted by Amarjit Mangang, DDM NABARD Mokokchung, while a short speech was made by Temsulepden, Branch Manager NStCB, Ltd Changtongya branch.
He emphasised on the need and importance of opening a girl child’s savings bank account to the parents. Moanungsang, BPM NSRLM Changtongya block spoke on “Girl child empowerment”. The parents were encouraged to ensure quality education to every child, irrespective of boy or girl child. He further shared on the need of celebrating the birth of a girl child in the family and community; promotion of equality and equity for both boys and girls; and to educate and orient the sons to respect the opposite sex. After the programme, DDM NABARD handed over gifts to all girl children who participated in the programme.
