DIMAPUR — The Kohima District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) meeting was held at the deputy commissioner’s conference hall, Kohima, with DC and chairman of DWSM, Kumar Ramnikant, on Friday.

The meeting focused on tap water connectivity and sanitation efforts across Kohima district, with various departments presenting their progress and challenges, a DIPR report stated.

The Rural Development department provided updates on sanitation work and tap water connectivity in Kohima, while the Water Resources department highlighted ongoing water harvesting projects and data collection efforts.

The meeting emphasised the importance of convergence between stakeholder departments to streamline the execution of water supply connectivity. Tap water connectivity in Anganwadi centres, PHC/CHC, government schools along with challenges and measures taken were also discussed during the meeting.

Ramnikant recommended setting monthly targets to expedite the achievement of objectives under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). He urged departments to share data, cross verify, correct discrepancies and work together towards achieving 100% tap water connectivity in every village household in Kohima.

The executive engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) outlined the progress of JJM in Kohima and Tseminyu districts. The EE informed that of the 76 villages in Kohima, 71 are under the PHED’s jurisdiction, while the remaining five are overseen by the Rural Development department.

The JJM aims to ensure tap water connectivity for all rural households by December 2024.
