DIMAPUR — The skill development cell of Kohima College, in partnership with various departments, transformed the campus into a ‘Winter Wonderland’ on Friday, celebrating the season’s spirit with a special Christmas-themed fete.
The event, spanning from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, was inaugurated by the college principal, Dr. Vitsosie Vüprü, who officially cut the ribbon to kick off the day’s festivities, the college’s mass media cell stated in an update.
A highlight of the day was the Christmas tree decoration competition held in the college courtyard. The beautifully adorned trees were judged by Kaholi Chishi, vice principal of Kohima College; Zeneinuo Solo, retired head of Political Science department, and Khriebu Nakhro, president of the Kohima College Alumni Association.
Different departments demonstrated their creativity and holiday spirit, wherein the English department secured the first place, followed by the Education and Commerce departments in the second and third places respectively.
Adding to the festive spirit, the skill development cell, which has been running a short-term craft-making certificate course for the last two weeks, showcased the creativity of its participants at the fete.
Their handmade crafts were displayed across various activity booths, exemplifying the college’s commitment to skill development.
‘Winter Wonderland’ also featured an extensive food menu with both local delicacies and international treats, including gimbap, Som Tam, choux pastries, and brioche.
“Traditional sticky rice products and millet-based sweets added a touch of regional flavor, while seasonal ginger ale and hot chocolate provided warmth to attendees,” it stated.
Activity booths run by college departments added to the charm with face painting, a photo-booth and a jumble sale offering items at discounted prices. The students’ council’s lottery and game booths provided entertainment and prizes adding excitement throughout the day.
“The ‘Winter Wonderland’ fest at Kohima College not only celebrated the festive season but also promoted skill development, creativity and community bonding. Part of the proceeds from the event will support further skill-building initiatives, aligning with the mission of the skill development cell to foster practical skills among students,” the update added.
